Jacek Sempoliński was born in 1927 in Warsaw. During the war he learned painting in a conspiracy school, in the years 1946-1951 he studied at the faculty of painting, and in the years 1951-1955 at the faculty of scenography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. After he finished studies, he devoted himself to painting, scenography and wall painting (e.g. he designed the polychromies at tenement houses in Warsaw Old and New Town). In 1955 he took part in the All-Poland Exhibition of Young Art in Warsaw Arsenal where he was awarded for his works. Since 1956 he’s been working at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw..

His works were shown many times during collective and individual exhibitions (e.g. the first one in 1960 at the Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw, in 2002 at the National Museum in Poznań). His works were exhibited at expositions entitled ‘21st Century Painting’ and ‘the Invasion of Sound’ at Zachęta Gallery. Sempoliński received many awards, e.g. the Jan Cybis Award in 1977, St. Brother Albert Award, academy award from the Dean of AFA in Warsaw and Ministry of Culture and Arts award. He devotes his time to theory and criticism of art. He lives and works in Warsaw.
