A multipurpose woman! An actress, filmmaker, writer, director of the Polonia Theatre- Krystyna Janda. She is our guest at TWO RIVERSIDES Festival now, but what will happen tomorrow, the day after tomorrow?
The adaptation of the American film ‘Bagdad Café’ is one of the important projects scheduled in her calendar. It will have its premiere on September 26 in the Polonia Theatre. There are no tickets left, it will be staged 17 times in a row. The songs’ lyrics were translated by Magdalena Czapińska and Andrzej Poniedzielski. Krystyna Janda is delighted and amused with some of the translations, e.g. “Janda cleananda” or “Mom, this is a bike. A bike is a thing that can’t stand”. Among the actors we will see Katarzyna Groniec and Ewa Konstancja Bułhak. The final song preformed by these two actresses is said to be ‘something unbelievable’. In addition, there will be a circus act so it’s worth waiting for the later performances and see it. The film had never had its theatre adaptation because, as Janda suggests, it is very difficult to prepare a stage version of a film. She told us about her dream – she wants to prepare an educational programme for young people, weekly meetings during which they could talk with artists and learn about opera, dance, film and theatre. She would only be a coordinator of the project, not a lecturer. There were emotions accompanying the interview with us- also the negative ones. Our guest asked the photographers to take pictures of her left profile, and one of the camera operators ignored it. To the joy of the audience, she repaid him with scathing remarks.
