Why the world’s gone crazy?

Has it? We can’t say that. In our opinion it hasn’t gone crazy, and those voices that claim it has belong to people who went crazy and now try to pretend they are normal, that it’s the world that stopped being normal. Apart from some people who are indeed crazy, the world’s fine. So the motto of this year’s edition of the Festival is only a reason for the discussion, not a statement.

Beneficial effects of garapa
News
Monday, 03 August 2009 00:00

Brazil – a beautiful, exotic and diverse country. It’s hot there, people are very hospitable. An ideal place for holiday. But that's just a stereotypical, European way of thinking. Jose Padilha shows a completely different face of this country. With his crew he reaches places that would never appear in tourist leaflets and brochures. You get an impression that it's not only a different country, but a completely different world. In Ceara state ‘garapa’ - a mixture of sugar and water - is often the only nourishment that people receive during a day. For four weeks Padilha observed the world in which hunger is the only sure thing. He forces us to notice the things we’d prefer not to see. As he said, he wants to give his viewers the possibility to understand the problem of hunger by meeting three families that are fighting with the lack of food and trying to survive. The film was presented during Berlinale 2009 and provoked discussions among the audience. The audience in Kazimierz will also have a chance to discuss it- after the screening of the film, there will be a meeting with Janina Ochojska in Empik Cafe.

“PASOLINI’S ANGER” (La Rabia di Pasolini) is a documentary film that will be presented during TWO RIVERSIDES Festival. It is the reconstruction of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s remarkable masterpiece from 1963 directed by Giuseppe Bertolucci. “Why is the life a misery, fear, pain? To answer these questions, I made this unchronological, sometimes even illogical film… a film that is still in accordance with my political convictions and poetical feelings”- Pasolini said.

What tune do TWO RIVERSIDES play?
News
Monday, 03 August 2009 00:00
The concert of Brazilian bossa nova sounded at the very beginning of the Festival not by chance. Bruno Baretto appeared in Kazimierz and opened ‘Music, My Love’ section of the festival with his ‘Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands’. The masterpiece was presented in the ruins of the Kazimierz castle. The music for this film was written by Francis Hime, who greeted the audience from the same stage the day before. He is also the author of the music in ‘Black Orpheus’ dir. Marcel Camus, a film that was awarded a Golden Palm in 1969. It’s an adaptation of the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice set in the modern context of Rio de Janeiro during the Carnival. To see it … and to hear it, you just have to come to the castle in Kazimierz on Thursday at 10:00 p.m. On Sunday afternoon we also had a chance to visit the house of Antonio Carlos Jobim ("A Casa do Tom"). We were in New York, Rio de Janeiro, in his private house in a small Brazilian village. The documentary film was directed by the widow of the main hero, Ana Jobim, who invited the whole crew to their house.
