I would like to welcome all of you at TWO RIVERSIDES! The 3rd edition of Film and Art Festival in Kazimierz Dolny and Janowiec is about to begin. On behalf of the festival crew I invite you to participate in every event that will take place here throughout the forthcoming 9 days. Sam Mendes, Takeshi Kitano, Ermanno Olmi, Jonnie To, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Jose Padilha, Rochard Loncraine are among the directors whose movies will have their premieres. For the first time in Kazimierz we have prepared a special digital screening! The third edition of the festival will be opened by the screening of Jacques Audiard’s digital version of ‘PROPHET’. You will have the opportunity to see the version that was awarded Grand Prix during the Cannes Film Festival this year. It hasn’t had its French premiere yet, but it will have it in Kazimierz! The Syrena Films company has funded a prize in the form of two invitations to the 66th Venice Film Festival to be won by those who take part in the Audience Poll. As you see, at TWO RVERSIDES it is possible to be both a member of the jury and a winner. On Friday we greeted our guests from Brazil, Francis and Olivia Hime. Tonight, at the castle in Kazimierz, they will offer feast for our ears on the most splendid bossanova and samba hits. For Francis Hime it will be the first time in Poland. He is an icon of Brazilian music, his songs were performed by Vinicius de Moraes, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethania. A further invitation to the wonderful world of music are documentary movies: “Maria Bethania, A Pebble from Ruanda” and “The House of Tom”. They are a must to see, as well as movies in the “Music My Love” section, among them: “Black Orfeus” and “Dona Flor and her two husbands”. For the latter you will be invited directly by Bruno Barreto, the author and Francis Hime, the composer . Krystyna Janda, Jerzy Stuhr, Piotr Szulkin, Borys Szyc, Jerzy Radziwiłowicz, Ryszard Bugajski, Sławomir Grunberg, will be guests at the festival with whom you will meet during the following days. Thanks to the magic of the cinema, a famous Polish actor Jan Machulski will be with us in Tadeusz Konwicki’s debut “The Last Day of Summer” and Michal Rogalski’s debut “The Last Action”. We will also have an opportunity to discover works of science-fiction pioneer Pawel Kluszancew. This is the first Kluszancew’s films retrospective in Europe. Stanley Kubrick and George Lucas called him the Godfather of the whole genre. There is more to discover, for instance… Jerzy Kawalerowicz. His Italian movie “Maddalena” will be shown here for the first time ever. There will be also a documentary movie about the director, “I Lived 17 Times”. There are dozens of short films at the Small Cinema, among them some real gems of cinema like: “The City Sails On” by Balbina Bruszewska, “Where the Sun Does Not Rush” by Matej Bobrik and “Moonlight sonata” by Cyprian Piwowarski. Truly unforgettable moments are waiting for us at the castle in Janowiec. Balkan rhythms in Kusturica’s movie “Black Cat, White Cat” will open the “I Love Cinema” section. Screenings, concerts, exhibitions, meetings, discussions, emotions, laughter and – the most important – being together thanks to the artists and the art – this is what TWO RIVERSIDES festival is about.
