Short movies – long joy

For a long time short movies have been treated as something minor and frequently ignored. It was said that ‘shorts’ were just a semi-professional exercise for inexperienced directors striving to achieve one day something bigger. Now the situation changed totally. Not only they appear on some festivals, but often play the main part.

We are looking forward to meeting short movies’ authors who can broaden our horizons, who back movies that are unreserved, brave, made with verve.

It happens that a short movie forms the basis for a full film (e.g. “12 Monkeys” by Terry Gilliam). It is getting more and more popular for directors well-known for the “normal” movies to start their experience with short movies. Some of them stick to the short-length films acknowledging their superiority over longer productions. Less money to spend on such movies, more views on line, wider range of means used in the film are among the biggest advantages. The short form also seems to be a format which is closer to spectators, because advertisements or video clips are their daily bread. The distance is lower and the impact on the spectator could be bigger. Moreover, such films could bear the burden of any form and subject. Therefore, the final effort is an independent, vivid, lively cinema. A cinema that our festival wants and will present.

Short length films, barely available in cinemas, will be shown in Kazimierz on a big screen. You will see cartoons, documentary movies, experimental and fiction films every day at PGE Cinema.
