Barański. A guide to Political Criticism [A river-interview]
Andrzej Barański creates unconventional cinema. He avoids action films or surprise plots and prefers to be particular about every detail between the events. As he says, his films should be measured in centimeters, not in meters.

Two Moonsis a story that takes place in the beautiful town of Kazimierz. It used to be beautiful because now it seems to be set only for tourism. Agriculture is not important any more. Walking down the streets I get an impression that the houses have been cut, that they’re not complete. Farm buildings are almost razed to the ground. Some walls of buildings that don’t exist anymore, some empty sites… It’s like a crippled town. Even the houses that are here don’t look like farm houses, no cow-sheds, no manure… Old thatched barns are also disappearing. Houseless farmyards with barns and fruit trees that grew wild are being replaced with new houses that don’t fit into a place like this. Horses, cows, pigs are also disappearing.

His literary roots often decided about the power of the Polish cinema. After 1989, when most directors used original scripts, he remained loyal to literature authors who are the main heroes of Piotr Marecki’s book: Czycz, Wojciechowski, Stoberski, Stańczakowa, Siemiński, Kuncewiczowa, Filipowicz, Kozieł, Różewicz, Choromański, Brzuszek, Kotula, Fydrych and Masternak.

Everything here is tiny and in small amounts, but seeing all that glittering trash around, it's worth noticing Barański’s revolutionary and unspectacular creativeness.
